How to Convert Kw Into Khw
- 1). Determine the power you use during any hour. For example, between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. you might use a television that consumes 100 watts of power for 30 minutes, four 100W light bulbs for an hour, and a 1,000W microwave for three minutes.
- 2). Calculate each instance of energy use in kWh. For example, the 100W television will use 1/10 kilowatt hour in one hour because 100 is one tenth of 1000. So in one half-hour it will use half of that or .05 kilowatt hours of energy.
- 3). Total the energy you used. The 100W light bulbs used .4 kilowatt hours of electrical energy (4 x 100 watts/1000 watts/1 hour); the microwave used .05 kilowatt hours (1 kilowatt/60 minutes in an hour x 3 minutes) and the television used .05 kilowatt hours. So, between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. you consumed the total of all that power, which is .5 kWh.
