How to Export Windows Live Messenger Emoticons

    • 1). Close Windows Live Messenger if it is open.

    • 2). Click on "Start," then "Run," and type "CMD.exe" in the window that opens, and click the "Browse" button. This will open a command prompt window.

    • 3). Type "md \MessengerContent" at the command prompt. Hit the "Enter" button on your keyboard.

    • 4). Type "xcopy /s %userprofile%\Local Settings\Microsoft\Messenger\<Windows Live ID>\ObjectStore\*.* \MessengerContent" at the next command prompt. Replace "Windows Live ID" with your actual Windows Live email address. Hit the "Enter" button on your keyboard. This will create a folder at C:\MessengerContent with all your messenger icons.

    • 5). Save the folder "C:\MessengerContent" to a thumb drive, or CD.

    • 6). Turn on another computer and exit the Windows Live Messenger program if it is open.

    • 7). Click on "Start," then "Run," and type "CMD.exe" in the window that opens and click on the "Browse" button. This will open the command prompt window.

    • 8). Type in the drive containing your Windows Live Messenger icons. For example, if you saved the folder to a CD, then your drive might be D:\. Hit the "Enter" button on your keyboard.

    • 9). Type "xcopy /s *.* %userprofile%\Local Settings\Microsoft\Messenger\<Windows Live ID>\ObjectStore" at the next command prompt. Remember to change the words "Windows Live ID" to your actual Windows Live email address. Press the "Enter" button on your keyboard.

      Click on the "Windows Live Messenger" icon and log in. The emoticons will be available.
